Bulldogs Avoid Sweep with 9-6 Win

OXFORD, Miss. - Mississippi State jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings and held off a late Ole Miss rally to defeat the Rebels 9-6 Sunday and avoid a series sweep.
The Southeastern Conference matchup was the last regular season game for both teams. Ole Miss (32-24 overall, 17-3 SEC) will be the No. 6 seed in the SEC Tournament in Birmingham. The Rebels will open against No. 3 seed Alabama Wednesday.
Mississippi State (38-17, 15-14 SEC) will be the No. 7 seed and play No. 2 seed and SEC Eastern Division champion South Carolina on Wednesday.
On Monday, Mississippi State will find out if it will host an NCAA Regional.
Mississippi State on Sunday scored two runs in the first inning, all coming after two outs. MSU added three more runs in the third as Joey Cramblitt started the inning in relief of starter Nathan Lyons.
Ole Miss would then begin its rally in the bottom of the fifth scoring two runs on Chad Mead's RBI grounder to first, and Hutchinson's RBI grounder to second.
The Rebels scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth off of reliever Justin Estel.
Ole Miss loaded the bases again in the seventh but managed just one run.
Ole Miss won the first two games of the three-game series.
