OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss head football coach David Cutcliffe remains hospitalized at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi as he continues to receive treatment for pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas.

"Coach Cutcliffe was hospitalized in Oxford earlier this week after undergoing evaluation regarding his recent brief illness," said Dr. John H. Webb. "His evaluation included a procedure which evaluates the pancreas gland and this revealed a normal healthy appearing pancreas.

"He was hospitalized after developing inflammation of the pancreas as a result of the study which was done. This complication occurs in five percent of those who undergo this procedure. His condition has improved each day and discharge from the hospital is expected soon with a complete recovery."

Cutcliffe was hospitalized in Knoxville, Tenn., with pancreatitis prior to the Rebels' Independence Bowl game last December. He rejoined the team in time to lead Ole Miss to a 35-18 victory over Texas Tech.

"I'm very appreciative of the support we're received from all the Ole Miss fans," Cutcliffe said. "I'm looking forward to getting this behind us. I've received excellent care from so many people."
