OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss head football coach David Cutcliffe remains hospitalized at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi after having surgery Wednesday afternoon to remove his gallbladder.

"Coach Cutcliffe was recently diagnosed with a chronic dysfunction of his gallbladder," said Dr. Todd Threadgill. "This condition was causing recurrent bouts of pancreatic inflammation. On Wednesday afternoon, Coach Cutcliffe's gallbladder was removed laparoscopically. We anticipate a rapid, full recovery.

"The majority of Coach Cutcliffe's recent hospitalization has dealt with his recovery from a bout of pancreatitis. This episode was related to his endoscopic pancreatic test that was a necessary evaluation prior to removing his gallbladder."

Cutcliffe was first hospitalized in Knoxville, Tenn., with pancreatitis prior to the Rebels' Independence Bowl game last December. He rejoined the team in time to lead Ole Miss to a 35-18 victory over Texas Tech.
