OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Joe Gunn scored two touchdowns and broke the Mississippi freshman rushing record Saturday in leading the Rebels to a 30-17 victory over Arkansas State.

Gunn had 12 carries for 122 yards, giving him 467 yards for the season, as the Rebels (5-2) continued their non-conference success under coach Tommy Tuberville.

Ole Miss is 14-0 in non-conference games under Tuberville, who is in his fourth season.

Deuce McAllister, who had held the freshman rushing record with 402 yards in 1997, ran for 124 yards and scored on a 16-yard run to give the Rebels a 27-3 lead in the fourth quarter.

Ole Miss wiped out an early 3-0 deficit with a six-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Gunn running in from 11 yards out with 13:12 left in the first half.

A blocked punt by Kenyatta Lucas set up Gunn's second touchdown, a 5-yard run with 7:08 to go in the half that put the Rebels ahead 14-3.

Arkansas State (3-5) dominated time of possession (11:46 to 3:14) and yardage (70-25) in the first quarter, but had only a 22-yard Andy McPherson field goal to show for it.

The Rebels were ahead 17-3 by halftime after Carlisle McGee kicked a 26-yard field goal to cap a 16-play, 86-yard drive.

Gunn's 27-yard run two minutes into the third quarter broke the record held by McAllister, and eventually set up a 22-yard field goal by McGee.

Arkansas State, limited to just 148 yards through three quarters, scored on a pair of touchdown passes from Cleo Lemon to Lamont Zachery in the final period.
