PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled former Ole Miss star David Dellucci Monday from Triple-A Tucson of the Pacific Coast League. He was recalled after Arizona traded outfielder Chris Jones to the San Francisco Giants for minor league pitcher Ricky Pickett, who was then optioned to Tucson.
Dellucci last season played in 17 games at the major league level with the Baltimore Orioles, hitting .222 with one home run and three RBIs. At Double-A Bowie, Dellucci hit .327 in 107 games with 20 home runs and knocked in 55 runs, and helped Bowie make an appearance in the Eastern League play-offs. He was then selected by Arizona in last November's expansion draft.
Dellucci started the year on the Diamondbacks' opening day roster before being optioned to Tucson. With the Sidewinders, Dellucci was hitting .301 with one home run and 11 RBIs.
A native of Baton Rouge, La., Dellucci starred for the Rebels from 1992-95, earning All- America honors in 1995. He finished his career as the school's all-time leader in RBIs with 204 and finished second on the Ole Miss career list in hits, with 204, and in home runs with 36. He also held school single-season records for home runs and RBIs before current-Rebel Jason Huisman surpassed both of those marks this past week.
