Frey Falls in Consolation Final at All-American Championships

LOS ANGELES - Celeste Frey of the Ole Miss women's tennis team battled Tulsa's Anousjka Van Exel, ranked 14th in the nation, before falling in three hard-fought sets in the consolation final of the Riviera All-American Championships, Sunday.
Frey lost the first set 6-3 and then came back to take the second 6-4. Van Exel won the third set 7-5 for the victory. It was Frey's fifth match against a top 30 opponent in this tournament. After losing in the first round to 11th-ranked Kristina Kraszewski of Washington, Frey beat 27th-ranked Kristen Sanderson of Duke in the first round of the consolation, and then No. 2 ranked Marissa Catlin of Georgia and 17th-ranked Michelle Dasso of Notre Dame. Frey has defeated seven nationally-ranked players this year and is currently 15-6 on the season.
Agnes Muzamel, ranked ninth in the country, reached the quarterfinals of the main draw before losing to the defending NCAA Champion, Vanessa Webb (Duke). Muzamel has reached the quarterfinals in eight grand slam appearances during her career.
