OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe has recommended the hiring of Richard Bisaccia and Mike MacIntyre to the Rebel football staff. The recommendations, made on Tuesday, are pending approval of the Board of Trustees, State Institutions of Higher Learning. Bisaccia and MacIntyre join Art Kaufman, Marion Hobby, John Latina, Kurt Roper and Jerry Colquitt on the Ole Miss football staff.
"I am thrilled to hire the quality of men like Mike MacIntyre and Richard Bisaccia," said Cutcliffe, who was hired as the Rebel head coach on Dec. 2. "They have great reputations, nationally, as recruiters and coaches."
Bisaccia comes to Ole Miss from Clemson, where he served as the running backs coach, special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator since 1994. During his tenure at Clemson, Bisaccia coached three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) running back Raymond Priester, who set 18 Tiger rushing records. Bisaccia's special teams also excelled, as Clemson was the only school in the nation to have players ranked in four special teams categories in 1995. The Tigers' special teams also set a school record for blocked kicks in 1997.
Prior to his stint at Clemson, Bisaccia served as an assistant on the South Carolina Gamecock staff from 1988-93. While at South Carolina, Bisaccia coached tight ends, receivers, defensive ends, running backs and special teams. From 1983-87, Bisaccia was a member of the Wayne State College football staff. Bisaccia served as an assistant from 1983-86, and in 1987, he was named assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.
Bisaccia attended Yankton College from 1979-82. He was a four-year starter at defensive back for Yankton College, and earned All-South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference accolades in 1981 and 1982. While coaching at Wayne State College, Bisaccia earned his bachelor's degree in 1986.
MacIntyre has coached the last two seasons at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. While on the Owls' staff, MacIntyre served as the defensive secondary coach. Prior to his time at Temple, MacIntyre was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Tennessee-Martin from 1993-97. He also served as Tennessee-Martin's recruiting coordinator. MacIntyre's other collegiate stints include two seasons (1992-93) as the defensive coordinator at Davidson College and two seasons (1990-92) as a graduate assistant coach at Georgia.
During the summers of 1992 and 1993, MacIntyre served as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the Deggendorf Blackhawks in Germany. He also worked as a guest defensive backs coach with the CFL's Memphis Mad Dogs in the summer of 1995 and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the summer of 1996.
A 1989 graduate of Georgia Tech, MacIntyre played two seasons (1987-88) at free safety and punt returner for the Yellow Jackets. Before transferring to Georgia Tech, MacIntyre was a free safety and punt returner for Vanderbilt in 1984 and 1985. He earned his master's degree in Sports Management from Georgia in 1991. MacIntyre's father, George, once coached at Ole Miss, serving as Steve Sloan's defensive coordinator in 1978.
Ole Miss (6-5) will return to action on Dec. 31 when it travels to Shreveport, La., to meet Texas Tech (7-4) in the 1998 Sanford Independence Bowl. Game time is 7:30 p.m. (CT). The game will also be televised by ESPN.
