Lady Rebel Netter Advances in Rolex National Indoor Championships

DALLAS, Texas - Agnes Muzamel of the No. 6 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team advanced to the round of 16 singles in the Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Thursday. The tournament, hosted by Southern Methodist at the Brookhaven Country Club, is the third leg of the ITA Collegiate Grand Slam.

Muzamel, the third seed in the tournament and also No. 3 in the nation, downed Ditta Huber of Southern California 6-2, 6-3. Muzamel, who improved to 11-3 on the year, will meet Mariel Verban of Wake Forest, a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Dee Dee Herring of SMU, on Friday at 8:30 a.m.

Also in the first round of singles, top-seeded Zuzana Lesenarova of San Diego, the No. 1- ranked player in the country, defeated Celeste Frey of Ole Miss 6-2, 6-2. Frey will play Ana Fernandez of Marquette on Friday at 10 a.m. in the first round of the consolation bracket.

In doubles action, Frey and Mariana Eberle downed Michelle Faucher and Rebekah Forney of Texas 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinal round, where they lost to second- seeded Teryn Ashley and Marissa Irvin of Stanford 6-2, 6-1.

Also in doubles, the Lady Rebel duo of Muzamel and Courtenay Chapman failed to advance past the first round as they fell to Duke's Karen Goldstein and Vanessa Webb 7-5, 6-4.

First Round--Goldstein/Webb (DU) def. Chapman/Muzamel (OM) 7-5, 6-4; Eberle/Frey (OM) def. Forney/Faucher (UT) 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Second Round--Ashley/Irvin (SU) def. Eberle/Frey (OM) 6-2, 6-1.
