Lady Rebel Netters Down Arkansas, 7-2

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 6 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team won four of the six singles matches and dominated the doubles to down 14th-ranked Arkansas 7-2 Sunday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. The Lady Rebels improve to 9-2 on the year, 2-0 in the SEC, while Arkansas drops to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in conference.
"Today's match showed what type of team we're made of," assistant coach Kevin Cory said. "It also reminded us that in the scheme of things a tennis match is not as important as life itself. We dedicated the match to the Montgomery family, and we are all praying for his daughter Margaret Anne, who is in the hospital right now."
Ole Miss led 4-2 after singles play, but dominated the doubles matches winning all three to take the victory. Celeste Frey and Mariana Eberle were impressive in an 8-1 win over Chin Bee Khoo and Maria Pavlidou at No. 1 doubles to clinch the victory for the Lady Rebels. Frey and Eberle are 9-2 at No. 1doubles this year.
"Once again our fitness proved to be a big factor in the match," Cory said. "Our doubles play was very decisive with us winning all three matches."
The Lady Rebels took a 2-0 lead in the match when Frey downed Pavlidou 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and then Alesya Ignatieva cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Adriana Lopez at No. 6 singles.
Ivona Mihailova made it 3-0 when she came back to beat Andrea Ho 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. She has not lost a dual match this year with a 11-0 record. Arkansas cut the lead to 3-2 as Adriana Garcia defeated Eberle 7-6, 6-3 at No. 5 singles and then 24th-ranked Khoo helf off No. 4 Agnes Muzamel 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at the top spot. Courtenay Chapman rallied to defeat Lady Razorback Tara Reid 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
The Lady Rebels will hit the road to take on the No. 3 ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
