Lady Rebel Netters Down South Carolina

OXFORD, Miss. The No. 7 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team downed 34th-ranked South Carolina 6-1 Friday at the Indoor Sports Center. The Lady Rebels improve to 15-3 overall and 7-2 in the SEC; while South Carolina drops to 8-9 overall and 3-6 in the SEC.
Ole Miss, who will host third-ranked Georgia on Sunday at 1 p.m., jumped on the Lady Gamecocks early winning four of the six singles matches in straight sets, before Agnes Muzamel and Courtenay Chapman downed Karolina Bulat and Tobi Rakic 8-3 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the win.
Chapman gave the Lady Rebels a 1-0 lead, dominating Leigh Eichelberger 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and then Muzamel cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Celine Regnier at the top spot to end a two-match losing streak, and put Ole Miss up 2-0.
South Carolina pulled to within 2-1, after Karolina Bulat defeated Ivona Mihailova 7-5, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, but that was as close as the score ever got. Mariana Eberle downed USC's Tobi Rakic 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and Missy Brewer held off Mandy Carvallo 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles, before Muzamel and Chapman sealed the win.
Martina Crha was down 5-2 in the third set and rallied to defeat Valentine Vernaz 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(3) for the Lady Rebels' final point.
With the win, the Lady Rebels improve to 6-1 at home at this year.
