McAvoy, Rebels Blank Florida 8-0

OXFORD, Miss. - Jeff McAvoy worked 8 1/3 scoreless innings as Ole Miss shutout Florida 8-0 in a Southeastern Conference baseball game Friday night in front of 2,007 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

The win improved the Rebels to 18-16 on the year and 8-5 in the SEC. Florida fell to 22-13 and 6-7 in the SEC, and was held scoreless for the first time since March 11, 1995, a span of 268 games.

McAvoy allowed just three hits and walked one while striking out eight to improve to 6-3.

The Rebels scored seven runs over the first two innings, plating four in the first and three in the second. Justin Huisman had a two-run double to cap the four-run first inning.

Michael Rosamond hit his 10th home run of the year with a two-run shot in the second to make it 7-0.

Brad Henderson led the Rebels' 13-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with two doubles as he tied Jeffrey Johnson for the Ole Miss career lead in doubles with 53.

Rosamond and Huisman both had two hits and two RBIs on the night.

Florida third baseman Kurt Keene recorded half of Florida's four hits as he went 2-for-2 on the night.

Gator starter Matt McClendon, 4-3, suffered the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk in just over an inning of work.

The two teams will play game two of this weekend's three-game series at 7:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for 4:00 p.m. but was pushed back to accommodate The Sunshine Network's broadcast of the game.
