Men's Golf Captures Team Title at Alabama Spring Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Ole Miss' Haymes Snedeker, Jon Bartlett and Chris Malloy each posted top-five finishes to lead the Rebel golf squad to the team championship at the Alabama Spring Invitational on Sunday. The team title was Ole Miss' second of the 1998-99 year, as the Rebels also won the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate last fall.
The Rebels entered the final round of play on Sunday, trailing Georgia State by two strokes, but solid performances by Snedeker and Malloy helped Ole Miss to overcome the deficit and win the title. Malloy shot a third-round best, three-under-par 69, while Snedeker carded a two-under-par 70 final round. Malloy's round of 69 was also his career best.
Snedeker finished in second place among the individual golfers with a three-round total of 211 (-5), and Malloy placed in a tie for fifth with a total of 213 (-3). Bartlett, who shot a second-round 68 (-4), finished in a tie for third place after a final-round, one-over par 73. Bartlett's three-round total was 212 (-4).
Phil Caravia shot a final-round 73, while Troy Muller posted a 78 in Sunday's final round.
With their first-place finish at the Alabama Spring Invitational, the Rebels have posted six top-five finishes in their eight tournaments in 1998-99.
