September 26, 1998
- Today's game marked the second time that Ole Miss has played an overtime in its history. The Rebels are now 2-0 in overtime games. Ole Miss defeated Central Florida, 24-23, in the 1997 season-opener in Oxford in its first-ever overtime game.
- Head coach Tommy Tuberville is now 12-0 versus non-conference opponents at Ole Miss.
- The 48 points scored by Ole Miss was its most since scoring 56 points in a win over Indiana State in 1995.
- The 89 combined points were the more for a game involving Ole Miss since 89 points were scored n 1989 when Ole Miss lost to Alabama, 62-27.
- The 32 points scored in the second half by Ole Miss were the most scored in a half by the Rebels since scoring 38 in the first half against Southern Illinois in 1994 when Ole Miss won 59-3.
- The 22 points scored in the fourth quarter were the most by Ole Miss in a quarter since scoring 22 points against Tulane in the fourth quarter during a 32-28 win in 1989.
- The 95 plays ran by Ole Miss today was three plays shy of the school record of 98 set against UT-Chattanooga in 1969. The 95 plays ranks as the second-highest single-game total.
- The Rebels' 512 yards of total offense is the second time this season they have gone over 500 yards of total offense in a game. Ole Miss registered 532 yards of offense against Memphis in the season-opener. The 512 yards of offense ranks tied for the 19th highest single-game output in school history. Ole Miss also tallied 512 yards of offense against Houston in 1961.
- Sophomore Romaro Miller established new career highs for completions, attempts and passing yards. For the day, Miller was 32-of-51 for 351 yards and a touchdown. In his starting debut against Memphis on Sept. 5, Miller established his previous career bests, completing 26-of-40 for 332 yards.
- Miller's 51 passing attempts is the third-highest single-game attempt total in school history and the most by a Rebel quarterback since Mark Young attempted 50 passes versus Texas Tech in the 1986 Independence Bowl.
- Miller's 32 completions is the fourth-highest single-game total in Rebel history and the most by an Ole Miss QB since Stewart Patridge completed 33 passes last year against Georgia. Kent Austin holds the school single-game record for completions with 37 against Tennessee in 1982.
- Miller's 63 plays of offense (attempts rushing and passing) is the third-highest single-game play total in school history. Archie Manning recorded 69 plays against Southern Mississippi in 1970, and had 67 plays of offense versus Alabama in 1969.
- Miller's three-yard TD run in the second quarter was his first career TD. It was also the first touchdown by an Ole Miss quarterback since Stewart Patridge's four-yard run against Tulane last year.
- True-freshman Eddie Strong's pass interception in the third quarter was his first career interception.
- Miller's 22-yard run in the third quarter was the longest rush in his career. Miller had a 20-yard run against Memphis earlier this year.
- Miller's 409 yards of total offense is the third-best single-game total in school history, trailing Archie Manning's 540 yards versus Alabama in 1969, and John Darnell's 413 yards of total offense against Arkansas State in 1989.
- With nine receptions today, junior Grant Heard moved into a tie for 16th-place on the Ole Miss all-time receiving list with Riley Myers (1968-69; 1971) with 72 career receptions.
- Heard's nine receptions was also a career-high, surpassing his previous career-best of five set twice before, most recently against Memphis on Sept. 5. Heard's nine receptions also tie him for the fifth-highest single-game total in Rebel history with nine others, including junior Cory Peterson who caught nine passes against Memphis in the Rebels' season-opener.
- Peterson moved into a tie for 22nd-place on the Ole Miss career receiving list with Jamie Holder (1977-80) with 66 career receptions.
- Peterson's 92-yard punt return is the fifth-longest in school history.
- Peterson's punt return for a TD was the first by a Rebel since Ta'Boris Fisher returned a punt 73 yards against VMI in 1996.
- Peterson's 116 yards in punt returns ties Doug Cunningham for the sixth-highest single-game total in school history. Cunningham recorded 116 yards in punt returns against Southern Mississippi in 1966.
- Sophomore Anthony Magee's interception on the game's first play was his second of the season. His first interception came last week against Vanderbilt.
- SMU's first quarter touchdown snapped a string of seven-straight quarters of not having given up a TD for the Ole Miss defense. Auburn didn't score a TD in the final three quarters against Ole Miss on Sept. 12, and Vanderbilt didn't score a TD in last week's game.
- Junior Armegis Spearman's fumble recovery in the second quarter was his first of the season and the second of his career. Spearman had a fumble recovery against LSU last year.
- Junior Michael Boone's recovery of a fumble for a touchdown in the second quarter was his second of his career. Boone recovered a fumble for a TD last year against Arkansas.
- The Rebels seven fumbles was their most since fumbling eight times against Tulane in 1985. Ole Miss lost five of those fumbles against the Green Waves but still won the game 27-10.
- Ole Miss' four fumbles lost is the most by the Rebels since losing five against Mississippi State in 1990.
- SMU's 47-yard interception return for a touchdown by Tracy Hart marked the first time an opponent had returned an interception for a touchdown against Ole Miss since Tulane did so last November.
- Redshirt freshman Joe Gunn scored his first career rushing touchdown on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter.
