OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman left-hander Joel Lyons tossed two hitless and innings, and senior right-hander Chad Davis and sophomore Jon Dickens turned in strong performances on the mound as well to highlight Thursday's fall intra-squad scrimmage.
Lyons was perfect in his two innings, retiring all six batters he faced and striking out three. Davis worked three innings and allowed just one hit. Dickens yielded one hit and one walk, and recorded one strikeout in his two innings of action.
Third-year head coach Pat Harrison was especially pleased with Lyons.
"We had some of the younger pitchers pitch today and I liked the way Lyons threw," Harrison said. "Anytime we have a left-hander that can throw strikes like he can and has good mechanics, that's very encouraging for us.
"I thought Jon Dickens did a lot better job today," Harrison added. "He's starting to get a feel for it and smooth some things out."
Senior J.T. Harrison led all hitters with a 2-for-3 performance for the White squad in a 6-5 loss.
The Rebels will scrimmage again Friday at 4 p.m., and Saturday at 1 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The public is welcome to attend and admission is free.
