FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Razorback starter Charlie Isaacson pitched the Razorbacks' third-straight complete game and Ryan Lundquist hit his 12th home run to help No. 9 Arkansas to an 8-1 win over No. 20 Ole Miss in the Friday night opener of a Southeastern Conference series at Baum Stadium.
Arkansas (33-18, 18-7 SEC) improved to 12-1 in home conference games this season and sustained its two-game lead over Alabama in the SEC West standings. The Crimson Tide defeated Vanderbilt 9-3 in the opener of a three-game series in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Ole Miss (30-21, 15-10 SEC) fell three games behind the Razorbacks in the SEC West race.
Isaacson (8-0) scattered five hits, struck out eight and walked four in his second complete game of the year. Rebel starter Jeff McAvoy (7-4) struck out four, walked three and gave up seven runs on seven hits en route to his first loss since March 12.
The Razorbacks were clinging to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Lundquist delivered a three-run homer off Mississippi reliever Cooper Campbell. The home run was the 53rd of Lundquist's career.
Rebel centerfielder Michael Rosamaond hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, his 16th of the season and just the second given up by Isaacson this year. Ole Miss' Brad Henderson went 2-for-3, extending his hitting streak to a career-best 16 games. UA shortstop Joe Jester moved his hitting streak to 10 games.
The series continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. game that will be televised by Fox Sports South.
