OXFORD, Miss. -- The No. 6 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team lost the doubles point but overpowered the Vanderbilt Commodores in singles to take a 6-1 win Saturday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, in the final home match of the season. The Rebels improve to 16-4 overall, 7-2 in the SEC, while Vanderbilt drops to 9-10 overall and 1-8 in the SEC.

"This was a great way to close out our home season," Head Coach Billy Chadwick said. "It was a very solid performance from our entire team in singles. The past couple of years, w'eve developed a tradition of peaking at tournament time. Today will give us momentum going into a crucial match with Mississippi State."

Vanderbilt took the opening doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Rebel netters Sebastien DeChaunac and Martin Sjoqvist downed Kyle Porter and Paul Thurmond 8-4 at No. 1 singles, and then the Commodore's Eddie Coates and Danny Tym defeated Sebastien Lami and Vikrant Chada 8-5 to even things up, before Andrew Nisker and Todd Peter got by Anders Stenman and Barry Hassell 9-7, to clinch the point.

Ole Miss came out strong in singles, winning five of the first sets and never looked back. Shortall got things going with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Peter Blach at No. 5 singles. He has now won four straight. Stenman downed Brad Hambrick 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 singles and Chada dominated Nisker 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to give the Rebels a commanding 3-1 lead.

Sjoqvist finished off Tym 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles to seal the win for the Rebels. Ole Miss posted a 12-1 record at home this year and has won 26 of their last 28 matches at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

At No. 1 singles, DeChaunac held off Coates for a 6-4, 6-4 win and at the No. 2 spot, and Lami came back to beat Porter 0-6, 6-3, 6-2, for the final two points.
