OXFORD, Miss. -- In the first games ever played at the newly completed Rebel Stadium, Ole Miss split a doubleheader with Middle Tennessee State Wednesday.

The Rebels scored three runs in the first inning and pitcher Brittany Maxey and Kari Ceriani made that stand as the Rebels posted a 3-2 victory in the first game. Senior Holly Mitchell hit a two-run double in the first inning to cap a three-run first inning that gave Ole Miss its first win ever in Rebel Stadium.

In the second game, Middle Tennessee State held a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but a two-out single by Heather Swinney scored Stephanie Vaglica and Allison Willrath to tie the score and send the game into extra innings. The teams played a scoreless eighth inning before Middle Tennessee State erupted for eight runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 12-4 lead. The Rebels could only score once as the Lady Raiders held on for a 12-5 victory.

"I am happy that we played well and won the first game and came back in the second game," Ole Miss head coach Joyce Maudie said. "But I was unhappy to see the second game slip away like it did. We are still learning and we learned a lot tonight."

Ole Miss now holds a 4-9 record while Middle Tennessee State is 2-2.

The Rebels return to action this weekend as they travel to Atlanta, Ga. for seven games in three days. Ole Miss will face Georgia Tech in a doubleheader Friday before participating in the Georgia State Tournament Saturday and Sunday. The Rebels face Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Tennessee Tech, Northwestern (La.) State and Saint Louis in the round-robin tournament.
