Rebels Split in Final Day of Softball Classic

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss pitcher Bobbi Wurth (Highland, Ill.) pitched seven innings of shutout softball as the Ole Miss Rebels defeated the Mississippi University for Women, 7-0, to salvage a split on Sunday's second day of the Ole Miss Softball Classic. Shortstop Mandy Shklar (Owasso, Okla.) and third baseman Kaci Coffee (Collinsville, Okla.) lead the Rebels with three hits apiece, as the Ole Miss lineup notched 11 hits on the MUW pitching.

In game one, Nicholls State broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to defeat Ole Miss 4-2. Nicholls State's Samantha Digiroloma blasted a two-run homer in the game. Shklar and catcher Allison Willrath (Yukon, Okla.) posted two hits apiece for the Rebels in the loss. Shklar totaled five hits on the day, scoring three runs and driving in another. The Mississippi University for Women scored five runs in the last three innings to seal a 6-0 win over Nicholls State in the second of the day's three games. MUW pitcher Melissa Johnson went 3-for-3 and pitched seven scoreless innings to earn the win.

The Rebels have one more week of fall practice left. Ole Miss will open the first season under new head coach Candi Letts on Feb. 12-14 at the University of Texas-Arlington Softball Classic.
