OXFORD, Miss. -- Ronnie Goodwin recorded Ole Miss' first complete game of the year with a 13-0, six-hit shutout of Arkansas State Tuesday night in front of 1,492 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
With the win, the Rebels concluded their nine-game home stand with an 8-1 mark and improved to 24-17 on the year. Arkansas State fell to 14-25 on the season. The two teams split the two-game season series.
Goodwin, 2-3, struck out a career-high nine and walked none to record Ole Miss' first complete game shutout since Jeff McAvoy shut out LSU on May 9 of last year.
The Rebels hit four home runs on the night with Jude Voltz hitting two and Michael Rosamond and J.T. Harrison also homering.
Rosamond's was a grand slam, his 15th home run of the season and his first career grand slam, in the first inning to put Ole Miss up 4-0. Voltz followed with a solo shot to center field to make it 5-0 and that was all the offense the Rebels would need.
Voltz's second home run was a two-run shot in the second to make it 7-0, and Harrison's was solo shot in the seventh inning to cap the game's scoring.
Carl Lafferty went 3-for-4 with a RBI, and Voltz was 2-for-3 with three RBI as Ole Miss out- hit the Indians 13-6.
Brad Henderson, who became Ole Miss' all-time hit leader on Sunday, went 1-for-4, doubling in the sixth inning to break Jeffrey Johnson's school career record of 53.
Josh Kuecker, 1-3, got the loss for the Indians, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks in just 2/3 of an inning of work as Arkansas State used five different pitchers on the night.
The Rebels will travel to Memphis tomorrow night for a 7:00 p.m. game at Memphis. Ole Miss defeated the Tigers 5-3 in Oxford back on April 7.
Following Wednesday's game, Ole Miss will step back in to Southeastern Conference play Friday night when the Rebels open a three-game series at Auburn, starting at 6:30 p.m.
