Softball Swept by Tennessee in Doubleheader

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee pounded out 17 hits, including five home runs, en route to a sweep over the Ole Miss Rebels Friday night.

With the loss, the Rebels dropped to 23-24 overall and 5-13 in the Southeastern Conference, while the Vols improved to 27-18 and 9-9.

In game one, Amanda Venable cranked a two-run homer and Adrianna Wilson a three-run blast to power Tennessee to a 15-5 victory. The Rebels jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning as Kaci Coffee had an RBI single and Allison Willrath drove in two. But, the Vols scored four runs in the bottom of the first, six runs in the second, two runs in the third and three in the fourth to cruise to victory.

In game two, Venable, Wilson and Carrie Swinford each homered as Tennessee completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory. Brittany Maxey drove in the Rebels only run with a single in the sixth inning. Ole Miss was held to four hits for the game and stranded 10 runners on base.

The Rebels take on Kentucky on Sunday, April 18, in Lexington. Game one of the double-header is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start with game two beginning at 3 p.m.
