AUBURN, Ala. - Gabe Gross' bases loaded RBI single to score Mailon Kent lifted Auburn to a wild 9-8 win over Ole Miss in a Southeastern Conference baseball game Saturday evening in front of 3,406 at Plainsman Park. It was the Tigers' second straight one-run victory over Ole Miss in which they scored the winning run in their last at-bat.

With the win, eighth-ranked Auburn improved to 35-9 and 13-7 in the SEC. No. 20 Ole Miss dropped its third-straight SEC game, falling to 25-19 overall and 12-8 in the SEC.

Kevin Knorst, 2-0, picked up the win, pitching 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk, while striking out four.

Ronnie Goodwin, 2-4, suffered the loss in relief, yielding two runs on two hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings.

The Rebels out-hit the Tigers 14-10, led by Burney Hutchinson's career-high four hits. Jude Voltz also went 3-for-4.

Gross, Jamie Kersh, and Hayden Gliemmo all collected two hits each for Auburn.

Auburn broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the fifth. Kent led-off the inning with a walk and Casey Dunn hit a two-run home run a batter later to put the Tigers up 6-4. Kersh then followed with a single to chase Ole Miss starter Dan McShea.

Goodwin then came in relief and coaxed Gross to ground out to second for the second out of the inning, but Chad Wandall followed with a double to right center to score Kersh.

The Rebels would rally to take an 8-7 lead in the seventh as Ole Miss would score four runs on five hits and two Auburn errors, in an inning the Tigers would use four different pitchers. Robert Shelton's sacrifice fly to center scored Jude Voltz to cut the lead to 7-5. John Massey followed with an RBI pinch-hit single up the middle to pull the Rebels back within a run. Two batters later, Justin Huisman tied the game with a RBI single to score Massey and Brad Henderson followed with another RBI single to put the Rebels up 8-7.

Auburn tied the game back up at 8-8 in the bottom of the eighth on John Tyler's two-out single to score Wandall from second.

The two teams will conclude the three-game series Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Freshman left-hander Nathan Lyons, 2-1, will start for Ole Miss against the southpaw Gliemmo, 10-3.
