OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Memphis, Tenn., on Saturday, May 2 to participate in the annual Tiger-Rebel Invitational. The meet will be one of the final two competitions for Ole Miss before the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships take place on May 21-24 at the University of Florida.

"This meet is very important for us as we head toward the SEC Championships," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "It looks like both teams are gearing up for the conference championships because we have had several good performances the past couple of weeks.

"At the Mississippi State Invitational two weeks ago, our men's team won the meet and our women's squad finished second. Last weekend, our athletes who went to the Penn Relays had some strong performances, and we also ran well at Northeast Louisiana. We are looking forward to Saturday's competition."

Sophomore Tisha Parker led the Ole Miss effort at the Penn Relays last weekend with a second-place finish in the women's collegiate long jump (20-6 1/4). Parker also posted a 10th-place finish in the triple jump (39-6 ) at the Penn Relays. On the men's side at the Penn Relays, junior Marcus Jones placed sixth in the collegiate high jump (6-7 ), while the 1600-meter relay team of Aaron Fenzel, Wayne Woolery, Jon Voyles and Tobias Anderson finished fifth in a time of 3:13.53.

At the Northeast Louisiana Invitational last Saturday, senior Jon Parry and freshman Cheryl Faubion paced the Ole Miss teams. Parry recorded four top-eight finishes, while Faubion led the Lady Rebels with three top-four showings. Parry won the long jump with a team season-best mark of 24-1, and also placed second in the high jump (6-8 3/4), fifth in the javelin (164-1 ) and eighth in the discus (135-11). Faubion finished second in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles with times of 14.67 and 1:04.95, respectively. Both times were personal season bests for Faubion. She also was a member of the Lady Rebel 1600-meter relay team which finished fourth with a time of 4:11.97.

After this Saturday's competition, the Ole Miss men's and women's track and field squads will travel to Starkville, Miss., to participate in the Bulldog Invitational on May 9.
