OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Starkville, Miss., to participate in the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, May 9. The field events will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the running events to start at 12:00 p.m.
The Bulldog Invitational will be Ole Miss' final meet before the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships are held May 21-24 at the University of Florida.
"Saturday's meet will be our final competition to get prepared for the SEC Championships," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "We need to have an outstanding meet Saturday so that we can carry that momentum into the conference championships. During the season, we use each meet to make progress as we head toward the SEC Championships, so how we perform on Saturday we tell us a lot about how we will do at the championships."
Earlier this season, Ole Miss participated in the Mississippi State Invitational on Apr. 18, with the Rebels taking first place in the men's competition and the Lady Rebels finishing second in the women's meet. The Rebels won eight events, while the Lady Rebels took top honors in five events. Freshman Tristan McCord and sophomore Tisha Parker both were double winners at the Mississippi State Invitational. McCord placed first in the 100 and 200 meters, and Parker won the long and triple jumps.
Last Saturday at the Tiger-Rebel Invitational, the freshman trio of Willie Moore, Savante Stringfellow and Cheryl Faubion paced the Ole Miss effort. On the men's side, Moore placed second in the 200 meters (21.69) and fourth in the 100 meters (10.83), while Stringfellow won the high jump (6-11 1/4) and placed fourth in the long jump (23-2 ). For the Lady Rebels, Faubion finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.76) and third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.68).
