OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams return to action on Saturday, May 1 when they host the Ole Miss Invitational. The meet, which will be held at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex, is the team's final competition before the Southeastern Conference Championships May 13-15.

Other teams competing in Saturday's meet are Mississippi State, Memphis, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech and Belmont. The field events will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the running events to start at 12:00 p.m.

"We are excited about hosting the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "We have some quality teams competing, and there will be some outstanding performances.

"This is also our final tune-up before we head to the SEC Championships, so we need a strong meet on Saturday to carry some momentum into the conference championships. We've had some good meets the last three weekends, and we are looking to continue that trend."

The Rebels will look to its sprint, relay and jumps events to pace the team's effort. At last weekend's Penn Relays, the Rebel 4x400 meter relay team of Wayne Woollery, Jimmy Love, Savante Stringfellow and Alonzo Banks won the Championship of America title with its first-place finish in the event. The quartet won the event with a time of 3:08.90. The only other Championship of America title won by the Ole Miss track and field program came in 1990.

In the sprints, sophomore Willie Moore will lead the Rebels in the 100 and 200 meters, while the tandem of senior Marcus Jones and Stringfellow will represent Ole Miss in the jumps. Stringfellow has already automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the long jump.

For the Lady Rebels, sophomore Teneeshia Jones will continue to lead the sprinting corps. Jones has set school records in the 100 and 200 meters and 100-meter hurdles this season. Brandy Mack will compete in the 400-meter hurdles, and Chika Chuku will lead Ole Miss in the 800 meters.

Following Saturday's meet, the Ole Miss teams will take a break for final exams, before resuming competition at the SEC Championships May 13-15.
