In most sports programs, the quality of the facilities used for training athletes has a great deal to do with the success of the program. The Ole Miss golf program is then indeed fortunate to have at its disposal an outstanding golf course with excellent practice areas.

The University of Mississippi Golf Club is located one mile north of the campus and has been open since the 1960s. From the championship tees, the course measures 6,682 yards with sharply undulating Bermuda greens that are well guarded with bunkers. The course has a 72.8 rating.

A modern clubhouse was built in 1975, and in 1978 an extensive face-lift was completed on all greens and tees. In that year, all greens were remodeled, bunkers were added and tees were moved.

In 1981, a full-size driving range was built to add to the large putting and chipping green and practice trap, completing an exceptional practice facility.

The year 1993 brought renovation to the clubhouse and the course. The entire clubhouse was remodeled, including the offices for the men's and women's golf coaches as well as the pro shop. Several of the greens were remodeled also. In 1995, the locker rooms for both men and women were remodeled, and a trophy case was added to display all the trophies and tournament titles that both teams have captured.

The Drive for Athletics has contributed to the upgrade of the Ole Miss golf facility, as it provided for the installation of cart paths and an irrigation system at the course.

In addition to the University Golf Course, the Rebels and Lady Rebels have full privileges at Grand Oaks Country Club located in Oxford. The course measures 6,400 yards with Bent grass greens surrounded by bunkers.

Both teams also have full use at Kirkwood National Golf Course in Holly Springs, Miss., which was selected one of the 10 best new public courses in the nation in the November 1995 issue of GolfWeek magazine.
