OXFORD, Miss. -- Jason Willis, a 6-foot-5, 212-pound, right-handed pitcher from East Central Community College, has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball for the Ole Miss Rebels, head coach Pat Harrison announced Tuesday.
Willis is the second player to sign with Ole Miss during the early fall signing period. Right- handed pitcher/shortstop Evan Conley, of Bradenton, Fla., signed a letter of intent on Monday with the Rebels.
Willis was 10-2 this past spring during his freshman season at East Central while earning East Central's and the MACJC South Division's Most Valuable Player Award. He also posted a .337 average at the plate with 13 home runs and was a 24th-round draft pick of the New York Yankees this past June.
"We're very happy that Jason has decided to continue his education and baseball career here at Ole Miss," Harrison said. "We think he will be a very fine addition to our pitching staff."
A native of Philadelphia, Miss., Wills played high school ball at Neshoba Central.
Ole Miss is coming off a 30-23 season in which they finished the year ranked No. 29 in the final NCAA RPI rankings. The Rebels are scheduled to return six position starters this spring, including second team All-SEC second baseman Brad Henderson.
