Women's Tennis Remains Perfect

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 6 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team recorded its fifth consecutive shutout, downing SMU 9-0 Friday at the Women's Sports Complex to improve to 5-0 on the season. SMU drops to 1-2.
Ivona Mihailova, ranked No. 14 in the nation, got things going for the Lady Rebels with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Patricia Ubeda-Diaz at No. 2 singles. Courtenay Chapman dominated Lindsey Bruce 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Celeste Frey, ranked No. 21 in the nation, cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Megan Russell at the top spot and Mariana Eberle blanked her opponent, Chrissie Werdinig 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to give the Lady Rebels a commanding 4-0 lead.
Junior Irena Mihailova downed Alisa Scott 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to clinch the match for Ole Miss. Freshman Aleysa Ignatieva, the only Lady Rebel to drop a set, came back to defeat Oxford native Sara Love Swaney, 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Ole Miss swept all three doubles matches for the perfect score.
The Lady Rebels will now prepare for the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 17-20 in Madison, Wisc.
