Auburn Sweeps Rebels in Softball Doubleheader

OXFORD - Ole Miss dropped to three games behind Auburn for the eighth and final spot for the SEC Tournament after the Tigers swept a double-header from the Rebels Saturday afternoon.
Ole Miss dropped to 25-28 overall and 7-17 in the SEC, while the Tigers improved to 26-25-1 overall and 10-12 in the conference.
In game one, Auburn took a 5-3 lead after putting up four runs in the top of the sixth inning. After a 40 minute rain delay in the seventh inning, the Tigers added another run to lead 6-3. Ole Miss rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but stranded the tying run on second to give Auburn the 6-5 win.
Kaci Coffee drove in two runs and Mandy Shklar and Kara Chapman drove in a run apiece for the Rebels in game one.
In the second game, Ole Miss scored a run in the bottom of the first on Heather Swinney's single to lead 1-0. After a three hour and thirty-five minute rain delay in third inning, the Tigers tied the score on a Jen Kraemer solo home run.
Swinney hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth pull the Rebels within two at 4-2, but Auburn added a run in the seventh and held off the Rebels in the bottom of the inning to pull out the 5-2 victory.
The Rebels return to action Saturday, May 1, against No. 4 Southwestern Louisiana at the Ole Miss softball complex. Game one is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start with game two beginning at 4 p.m.
