Baseball Opens SEC Play at South Carolina

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss baseball team opens Southeastern Conference play this weekend as the Rebels travel to South Carolina for a three-game series. Game times are Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at noon (all times CST).

South Carolina is 13-4 on the year and is ranked No. 23 in the Collegiate Baseball poll and No. 25 in the Baseball Weekly/ABCA poll. Ole Miss, 6-9 on the year, is looking to end a four-game losing streak.

The Rebels send junior right-hander Jeff McAvoy to the mound Friday. McAvoy is 3-2 with a 6.75 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings pitched. Junior right-hander Joey Cramblitt (2-0, 3.63 ERA, 17 1/3 innings) is the likely starter for Saturday, and Sunday's starter is yet to be determined.

Sophomore Justin Huisman leads Ole Miss with a .362 batting average, five home runs and 14 RBI, followed by sophomore John Massey with a .353 average, three home runs at 11 RBI. Senior Brad Henderson is third on the team with a .344 average, followed by junior Michael Rosamond with a .333 average. Sophomore Robert Shelton is tied for the team lead in home runs with five and is second on the team with 13 RBI to go along with a .310 batting average.

South Carolina is led by junior Nate Janowicz with a .448 batting average and a team-leading five home runs and 21 RBI. Senior Tim Aniolini is hitting .396 with two home runs and leads the Gamecocks with 25 RBI.

Junior right-hander Randy Hadden is 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 25 1/3 innings for South Carolina, while sophomore right-hander Kip Bouknight is 3-0 with a 1.56 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings.
