OXFORD, Miss.-- Casey Fuller, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound, left-handed pitcher from Sacramento City College, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Ole Miss, head coach Pat Harrison announced Thursday. Fuller is the Rebels' fourth signee of the early fall signing period.
A native of Dixon, Calif., Fuller went 1-0 and struck out 12 in limited action with Sacramento City this past spring as a freshman, helping Sac City to the California State Junior College championship. He pitched this summer in the prestigious Cape Cod League and was a 25th- round selection of the Montreal Expos in this past June's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Fuller is slated to be one of Sacramento City's top pitchers this spring.
Fuller was also selected by Minnesota out of Dixon High School in the 1997 First-Year Player Draft. He posted a 7-1 record with a 2.25 ERA his senior season and was named Dixon's team MVP. In addition, he was selected to play in the 1997 North vs. South Vallejo All-Star Game.
"We're extremely happy to be able to sign someone like Casey during the early fall signing period," Harrison said. "We feel he will be an excellent addition to our pitching staff. He has the tools to be a very fine pitcher in the SEC."
Ole Miss is coming off a 30-23 season in which they finished ranked No. 29 in the final NCAA RPI rankings. The Rebels are scheduled to return six position starters this spring, including senior second baseman Brad Henderson, a second-team All-SEC selection in 1998.
