Duke Ends Lady Rebels' Tennis Season

SOUTH BEND, Ind. Fourth-ranked Duke ended the No. 7-ranked Ole Miss Lady Rebels' tennis season with a 6-0 victory in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships, hosted by the University of Notre Dame, at the Courtney Tennis Center in South Bend, Ind.

Duke improved to 26-3 with the win and will next play either Stanford or Wake Forest in the semifinals on Saturday. Ole Miss finishes the year 17-6.

The Lady Rebels won just one set in the six singles matches played Thursday afternoon. Junior Anges Muzamel won the first set of her No. 1 singles match with Vanessa Webb 6-2. Webb, the third-ranked singles player in the country, rebounded to win the next two sets 6-2 and 6-1 to earn the victory.

In the other singles matches, the Lady Rebels dropped five close match to the Blue Devils. Sophomore Ivona Mihailova fell 2-6 and 4-6 to Kristin Sanderson at No. 2 singles, junior Courtenay Chapman dropped her singles match, 0-6, 4-6 to Megan Miller at No. 3 singles, senior Martina Crha loss the first set 7-6 in a tie breaker to Karen Goldstein at No. 4 singles before Goldstein took the second set 6-3. At No. 5 singles, sophomore Mariana Eberle dropped to two hard-fought sets to Kathy Sell, 5-7, 6-7 (3), and Duke's Laura Zifer was a straight-set winner over sophomore Missy Brewer, 6-2 and 6-0 in No. 6 singles action.
