OXFORD, Miss. - After a day off on Wednesday, the Ole Miss Rebel football team returned to the practice field on Thursday for its second day of drills in pads. Following Tuesday's drills, head coach David Cutcliffe said he was looking forward to Thursday's practice, and he saw his Rebels continue to carry a positive and spirited attitude on the field.

"Once again, I thought our attitude was outstanding," said Cutcliffe. "Our players were eager to hit the field and ready to practice. We did a little live work at the end of practice, and I thought there were a few hits by our defense that were really crisp. I feel that we are getting better, and we're not wasting time.

"However, it still looks like the fourth day of spring practice. It is still early, and there are a lot of questions to be answered. If we maintain this attitude, we are going to make strides the rest of the spring." Cutcliffe noted the Rebel defensive secondary is one area that has already make some strides in the first four practices, but he also liked the competitive nature of the entire team in Thursday's drills.

"Our secondary has really stepped up in these early practices, and has challenged our offense," Cutcliffe said. "It is evident that they are getting better.

"We are seeing a lot of good competition in these early practices, and that's want we want to see. There's competition on offense and defense up front on the lines, and between the defensive backs and wide receivers and the backs and linebackers. A lot of positive things are going to come out of this." The Rebels will continue spring drills on Friday and Saturday.
