OXFORD, Miss. -- Coach David Cutcliffe's first Ole Miss spring football practice will come to an end here Saturday with the annual Red-Blue football game. Kickoff in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is set for 1:00 p.m.

A full schedule of events are planned for Grove Bowl '99, which is being sponsored by the M-Club Alumni Association.

Activities in The Grove will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a "Kids Press Conference" taking place at the stage area and will be hosted by David Kellum, "Voice of the Ole Miss Rebels."

The Food Court opens at 10, followed by a 10:30 musical salute to '60s rock-'n'roll by the Bouffants. At approximately 11:00, the Ole Miss team will come through The Grove and remain there for a brief player autograph session.

Pre-game ceremonies will begin at 12:30 at the stadium with the presentation of various football awards from the 1998 season and 1999 spring drills.

Also on tap Saturday is a Southeastern Conference baseball showdown between Ole Miss and Georgia. First pitch is set for 4 o'clock at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

The Ole Miss soccer team will also be in action Saturday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. as 12 teams compete in a 6-Aside Tournament at the Ole Miss soccer stadium.

The athletic ticket office, located in the Rebel Shop next to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, will open at 11:30 Saturday morning. Tickets for the football game cost $5 (children under 10 admitted free) and all proceeds go to the M-Club J. W. "Wobble" Davidson Scholarship Fund. Ole Miss students, faculty, and staff, may pick up tickets at the Rebel Shop ticket window upon presentation of their I.D. card.

Tickets to the baseball game cost $5 for reserved, $4 for general admission, and $1 for high school and under.

Plans call for the spring football game to have four 12-minute quarters and will include everything with the exception of kickoffs. The ball will be placed on the 30-yard line at the beginning of each half and after scores.

"It will be pretty much like a normal game," Cutcliffe said. "We'll be punting and doing extra points and field goals. The coaches are split up and I think it's going to be competitive. Everybody is looking forward to the game."

Cutcliffe said there a few things he hopes will happen during the Red-Blue game.

"I want to see them (the players) come out and have a little fun," he said. "I want to see them compete and see who makes the plays. I also want us to stay healthy."

With spring drills drawing to a close, Cutcliffe appears satisfied with the progress his team has made during a limited period of work.

"You never get to accomplish everything you want," he said. "With a limited number of days, you have to get into your mind that you are probably going to do a little less than you would like from a scheme standpoint. It's a challenge. I think a whole lot of players have gotten better. That's a tribute to the players and their attitude and to the coaches in what they've gotten done. We're still not a good 11 man football team all the time, but that's got to come this fall. It will be real critical how well we start the fall."
