Hampton Places 10th at Alabama Heptathlon Day One

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Lady Rebel sophomore Daya Hampton is in 10th place after the first day of competition in the heptathlon at the Alabama Relays on Thursday. Hampton is 10th with a point total of 2731. Pittsburgh's Tracie Smith leads the heptathlon with a point total of 3445.

Hampton's best finishes came in the high jump and 200 meters, where she placed fifth in both events. The Memphis, Tenn., native recorded a mark of 5-3 1/4 in the high jump and a time of 25.5 seconds in the 200 meters. She also posted a time of 15.74 second in the 100-meter hurdles and a mark of 26-1 3/4 in the shot put.

The heptathlon will conclude on Friday with participants competing in the long jump, javelin and 800 meters. Friday's action at the Alabama Relays will also include the final day of competition in the decathlon and the men's and women's 10,000 meters. The individual field and running events will take place on Saturday, with all relays to be held on Sunday.
