Lady Rebel Netters Knock off William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - In a battle between two of the top women's programs in college tennis - Ole Miss and William & Mary, the score was all even a 3-3, but the Lady Rebels won two of the three doubles matches to take a 5-4 win over the No. 7 ranked Tribe. The Lady Rebels improve to 12-3 on the season.
Agnes Muzamel downed Carlijn Buis 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to notch her 20th win of the season. She now only needs eight wins to become the all-time career singles leader at Ole Miss. Freshman Alesya Ignatieva dominated Jessyca Arthur 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and Mariana Eberle came back to beat Lindsay Sullivan 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles for the Lady Rebels three singles wins.
William & Mary posted wins at No. 2, 3, and 4 singles. Tari Ann Toro upset 16th-ranked Celeste Frey 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Ivona Mihailova lost for the first time at No. 3 singles this year. Mihailova claimed the first set 6-3, but the Tribe's Carolijn van Rossum took the second and third sets 7-5, 6-3. Senior Courtenay Chapman won her first set over Delphine Troch 6-2, but lost the nex two 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
In doubles, the Mihailova twins cruised to a 8-2 win over Arthur and Sullivan at the third spot and then William & Mary's Laura Tsaggaris and Toro won a thrilling match at No. 1 doubles, 9-8(5) against Muzamel and Chapman to lock the match at 4-4.
Eberle and Frey are ranked ninth in the country and they showed why, in holding off the 19th-ranked team of Van Rossum and Troch 8-6 at No. 2 doubles to clinch the victory for the Lady Rebels.
This marks the third year in a row, that the match has come down to doubles and the second year in a row that it has been decided at No. 2 doubles. Eberle teamed up with Ivona Mihailova at No. 2 doubles last year, to clinch the win in Oxford.
Ole Miss will travel to eighth-ranked Vanderbilt Sunday for a 11:00 a.m. match.
