Lady Rebel Netters Tied for Sixth Nationally

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team is tied for sixth in the ITA National Team Rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, while three members of the team are among the Top 25 singles players in the nation.

The Lady Rebels are tied for sixth behind top-ranked Florida, Duke, Georgia, California, and Stanford. Texas, UCLA, Wake Forest and William and Mary round out the top 10. Seven teams from the Southeastern Conference are ranked in the Top 25 including Vanderbilt (11th), Arkansas (14th), South Carolina (21st) and Kentucky (23rd).

Ole Miss is one of only three schools to have more than two players in the Top 25. The other is defending NCAA Champion, Florida. Agnes Muzamel and Ivona Mihailova have been mainstays in the Top 25 and are joined by newcomer Celeste Frey.

Muzamel, a mainstay in the top 10 for the past two years, is ranked third in the nation. She finished the fall with a 8-3 record that included a semifinal appearance in the National Clay Court Championships and a quarterfinal showing at the Riviera All-American Championships.

Mihailova is ranked 14th in the nation. She completed the fall with a 5-3 record including a semifinal appearance at the National Clay Court Championships.

Frey, a transfer from Florida International, had a successful debut as a Lady Rebel, posting an impressive 18-7 record this fall. She defeated seven nationally-ranked players and four of her losses came against opponents ranked in the Top 25.

Senior Courtenay Chapman is ranked No. 72 in the final fall rankings after going 8-3 in the fall. She posted a win over a player in the top 30.

In doubles, Ole Miss had two teams make the top 20 with Mariana Eberle and Frey leading the way at No. 11. The two had an outstanding fall, finishing 12-4 and reaching the finals at the Clay Courts and the semifinals at the SEC Fall Coaches Championships and the ITA South Region Championships.

Muzamel and Chapman, who had a 5-4 record this fall, are ranked No. 20 in the doubles rankings.
