OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss women's volleyball head coach John Blair announced Wednesday the signing of 6-2 middle right side hitter Leigh Rittiner to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Mississippi.
Rittiner, an All-State, All-City and All-District selection out of St. Mary's Dominican High School in New Orleans, will join the Lady Rebels in the fall semester of 1998 and Blair said with her background, she could get playing time right away.
"She is projected to play in the right-side hitter position," Blair said. "Leigh is a very intelligent player which gives her a chance to vie for court time early in her career. This was the only right side we recruited, so she will fill a need in our program."
Rittiner, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Rittiner of the West Bank, carried a 4.0 GPA while at St. Mary's Dominican High School and competes for Wade Washburn's Junior Olympic Volleyball Club--the Piranha's--based out of New Orleans.
Rittiner, who is scheduled to play in the Louisiana State All-Star match, is the first player to sign with the Lady Rebels this spring.
