Lady Rebels Defeat South Carolina, 6-3

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The No. 8 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team defeated 16th-ranked South Carolina 5-3 Friday afternoon at Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center. With the win, the Lady Rebels improve to 15-4 overall, 7-2 in the SEC. Ole Miss won four singles matches and the No. 2 doubles match to seal the victory.
At No. 3 singles, No. 27 Ivona Mihailova downed Jennifer Radman, 6-2, 6-0, while No. 92 Courtenay Chapman beat Leigh Eichelberger, 6-0, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, Mariana Eberle defeated Lynn-Yin Tan, 6-1, 7-5. South Carolina's Katarina Markovski, ranked 76th, knocked off No. 4 ranked Agnes Muzamel at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, the Lady Gamecocks Celine Regnier pulled off an upset of her own, knocking off No. 14 Celeste Frey, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(5). With the No. 6 singles match still going on, the No. 16 team of Muzamel and Chapman defeated the team of Mandy Carvalho and Radman, 8-2 at the No. 2 position to make it 4-2 Ole Miss. Freshman Alesya Ignatieva and Tamara Sutton were locked in a tight battle at No. 6 singles. Ignatieva won the first set 6-1 and then Sutton took the second 6-4. The two battled to a third-set tiebreaker with Ignatieva winning it 7-6(4) to clinch the victory for the Lady Rebels. The Lady Rebels return home to host South Alabama Tuesday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m.
