OXFORD, Miss. - It was senior day at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, and the No. 8 nationally-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis wasted no time in downing the University of Alabama 9-0 to send Agnes Muzamel and Courtenay Chapman out with a bang. With the win, the Lady Rebels improve to 18-4 overall, 9-2 in the SEC and have clinched the third seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament.

"Our team was on fire today with Agnes and Courtenay leading the way," head coach Jerry Montgomery said. "We played with great intensity and controlled power and this match will stick in my mind for a long time to come."

It took barely an hour for the Lady Rebels to take charge and defeat the Crimson Tide to post a perfect record against Alabama in the decade of the 90s. It was also the Lady Rebels second straight shutout against the Crimson Tide.

In her last match at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, senior Agnes Muzamel was dominating, shutting out Alabama's Jill Breslin 6-0, 6-0. She now has 119 career singles wins and needs five more to become the all-time career singles leader at Ole Miss.

The other senior Courtenay Chapman, cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Selia Mathew at No. 4 singles. Chapman has 108 career singles victories, and by the end of the afternoon, she would etch her name in the record books at Ole Miss.

Ivona Mihailova had little trouble with Weyli Chang, winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Celeste Frey downed Dominique Glinzler 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and then Irena Mihailova clinched the victory with her straight set win, 6-3 6-3, over Jenny Ketchum at No. 6 singles. Mariana Eberle made it a perfect sweep of the singles holding off Kathleen Mele in the second set for a 6-1, 7-5 win at the fifth spot.

Frey and Eberle dominated Breslin and Glinzler 8-1 at No. 1 doubles and the Mihailovas won 8-1 over Chang and Mele at No. 3 doubles setting the stage for the two seniors playing in their final home match, to close it out.

With Muzamel and Chapman's 8-2 win over Becca Baum and Ketchum at No. 2 doubles, Chapman became the first Lady Rebel ever to win 100 matches in both singles and doubles.

"I have thought about this day for a long time, not so much because we were playing Alabama, but because it would be Agnes and Courtenay's last home match," Montgomery said. "In your coaching career, it's not often that you have the privilege of working with athletes and people of their caliber. They have contributed incredibly to our program becoming one of the nation's elite."

The Lady Rebels will now prepare for the SEC Tournament which begins Thursday in Baton Rouge, La.
