Ole Miss Volleyball Team Prepares for SEC Tournament

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Southeastern Conference Tournament to be held Friday through Sunday at the University of Arkansas. Ole Miss, the sixth seed from the Western Division, will play Georgia, the third seed in the East, on Friday at 11 a.m. in the first round of the tournament.
Ole Miss, 9-22 overall and 2-13 in the SEC, is led by junior Kari Elggren of Mesa, Ariz., with 435 kills, followed by junior Lauren Dorcheus of Houston, Texas, with 227 and sophomore Kira Zschau of Dunedin, Fla., with 216. Anna Hackbarth, a junior from Chaska, Minn., is fourth with 203 kills and leads the team in hitting percentage with a .293.
Lisa Frannino, a junior from Metairie, La., leads the team in digs with 300, followed by senior Danielle Atzinger of Louisville, Ky., with 285 and Elggren with 277. Dorcheus has 103 blocks to lead the Lady Rebels, followed by Hackbarth with 76 and freshman Leigh Rittiner of New Orleans, La., with 68. Frannino leads Ole Miss in assists with 1,050 and in service aces with 41.
Ole Miss ended the year third in the conference in digs in SEC matches with an average of 15.40 per game, while Elggren was fourth in the SEC in kills per game with a 4.35 average. Dorcheus was eighth in blocks per game in SEC matches with a 1.09 average.
Georgia is 12-13 overall and 8-6 in the SEC and has won six straight matches, including two in a row over South Carolina. The Bulldogs are led by Kathy Vis with 335 kills and a .337 hitting percentage, followed by Rebecca Dady with 255 kills and Stacy Buerger with 244. Buerger leads the Bulldogs in digs with 253, followed by Dady with 234.
Vis also leads Georgia in blocking with 101 total blocks and in service aces with 43. Mindi Westfall has 1,070 assists to lead the Bulldogs.
Ole Miss and Georgia met previously this year on Sept. 25 in Oxford with Georgia winning 3-1.
The winner of the Ole Miss-Georgia match plays Auburn, the No. 2 seed from the West, Friday at 7:30 p.m.
