OXFORD, Miss. - Under sometimes rainy conditions, the Ole Miss football freshmen and walk ons went through their first day of two-a-day workouts. The two practice sessions lasted about 90 minutes each.
The Rebels spent time working on fundamentals and learning the basic offensive and defensive formations.
"They had a lot of energy and a lot of enthusiasm for the first day," said head coach Tommy Tuberville, entering his fourth season at Ole Miss. "I saw a lot of guys having fun. They were a little confused at times with all the stuff we're throwing at them, but they'll continue to work hard and hopefully we'll get them caught up before the varsity arrives."
Tuberville also added that with the cool and rainy weather, the coaching staff wasn't able to get a true measure of what kind of shape the Rebel newcomers reported in.
"We didn't get a real good look of what type of shape they're in because it was so cool and it rained," Tuberville said. "We didn't go as long as we would have liked, so we didn't get a realistic picture. Tomorrow we'll get a little better feeling."
Saturday will be the newcomers last workouts before starting practices with the upperclassmen on Tuesday.
