OXFORD, Miss. - In sweltering heat Wednesday, the Ole Miss Rebel football team worked on correcting some of the mistakes from Tuesday's intrasquad scrimmage, as they continue preparations for the season opener versus Memphis on Sept. 5.

Head coach Tommy Tuberville says he is pleased overall with the defensive effort in practice, but stressed needed improvement on the offensive side of the ball.

"Our defense is ahead of the offense right now," Tuberville said. "The defensive efffort is there, but we've got to get more continuity on offense and work harder. We need to find some leaders on offense to step up for us."

The Rebels worked on kickoffs, passing plays and the running game early in practice and then spent the rest of the afternoon working on the offense and defense. They also spent time working on goal line plays and concluded the day with field goals.

The first Tommy Tuberville Radio call-in show of the 1998 season will air live from Tico's Restaurant in Jackson, Thursday from 6-7 p.m. Fans can call in at 1-888-808-8637 to speak with Tuberville. Bellsouth mobility customers can dial in at star 222.
