Rebel Netters Take Down Auburn

OXFORD, Miss. -- The No. 6 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team won the doubles point and went on to defeat 23rd-ranked Auburn 5-2, Friday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. The Rebels improve to 15-4 overall and 6-2 in the SEC, while Auburn drops to 10-6 overall and 2-5 in the SEC. Ole Miss will host Vanderbilt Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in its final home match of the season.

The Rebels jumped on the Tigers early sweeping the doubles. Sebastien Lami and Vikrant Chada downed Christian Limbart and Mercel Mizerski 8-1 at No. 3 doubles, and then Sebastien DeChaunac and Martin Sjoqvist defeated George Motijasevic and Rene Moller 8-5 for the point. At No. 1 doubles, James Shortall and Anders Stenman upset 13th-ranked Lee Pearson and Steve Huss 8-6.

Shortall gave Ole Miss a 2-0 lead as he cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Limbart at No. 5 singles, and then Sjoqvist beat Moller 6-3, 6-3 to give Ole Miss a commanding 3-0 advantage.

With the Rebels up 3-0, Chada found himself in a familiar spot. After losing the first set 6-4, he came back strong winning 6-1, 6-1 in the second and third sets to clinch the victory for the Rebels for the second consecutive match. Chada has now won 12 in a row and remains undefeated at No. 4 singles.

Seventh-ranked DeChaunac rallied from 5-3 down in the third set against 27th-ranked Pearson to win 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(2), for the 5-2 score.
