Rebel Netters to Host Samford

OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 4 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team will begin the outdoor season Tuesday as they host Samford University at 2:00 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Incase of inclement weather the match will be played at the Women's Sports Complex.
Ole Miss (6-2) is coming off a fifth place finish at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Rebels went 2-1 in the tournament, defeating 16th-ranked Harvard and No. 9 South Carlolina and dropping a close match to No. 5 Illinois.
The Rebels are led by James Shortall, who is 26-8 overall, 5-3 at the No. 1 position. Martin Sjoqvist is 5-2 at No. 4 singles, while freshman Kristofer Stahlberg remains perfect in his debut at 7-0 in dual match play.
Samford comes into the match with a 4-1 overall record. They are coming off a win over UT-Chattanooga (5-2) this past weekend. The Bulldogs are led by Bernie Staub.
"This match should help us prepare for the SEC outdoor season which begins this Saturday at Arkansas," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "We have been very successful indoors having reached the finals in singles and doubles in the SEC and finishing in fifth place with Georgia at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor, the highest finish for any SEC teams."
