OXFORD - The Florida Gators extended Ole Miss' losing streak to eight games after sweeping a double-header from the Rebels Sunday afternoon.
Ole Miss (25-32, 7-19) gave up 11 unearned runs and committed 10 errors in the two game series against the Gators (31-26, 10-14).
In game one, the Gators scored three runs in the fifth inning off of five Ole Miss errors en route to 3-0 win. Andrea Zimbardi and Jamie Hirschman reached on errors by Ole Miss pitcher Jennifer Hughes to lead off the inning for Florida. Hughes' third consecutive error allowed Maria DiGrazia, who pinch ran for Zimbardi, to score the game's first run.
Jen Cordero drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Nicole Kreipl's sacrifice fly gave the Gators a 3-0 lead.
The Rebel's best scoring opportunity came in the seventh after Allison Willrath singled to open the inning. Kara Chapman and Korrie Kashuba followed with singles to load the bases with only one out. Audra Wadsworth, who pinch ran for Willrath, was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice by Stephanie Vaglica. Mandy Shklar grounded out to end the game and leave the bases loaded.
In game two, Florida rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth inning to pullout a 9-6 victory over Ole Miss. The Rebels committed five errors in the game, including three in the sixth inning.
Brittany Maxey went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs with a double in the fourth inning to pace the Rebels attack.
The Rebels close out the 1999 season with two double-headers against Arkansas in Fayetteville next weekend.
