OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebels began preparing for the Sept. 5 season opener against Memphis in earnest Friday afternoon.
The Rebels began working on their game plan for Memphis and Friday's practice marked the first time the offensive and defensive units ran against scout teams.
"This was our first day working against scout teams," said Ole Miss head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "We started putting our game plan in. We still have a long ways to go but the team is working hard. We're going to take Saturday off to try and get back in the right frame of mind and try to start a normal game week on Sunday."
Tuberville also added that the Rebels tried to get their scout teams familiarized with their roles before starting a normal game week routine on Sunday.
"The main thing we tried to do today was train the scout team," Tuberville said. "Scout teams play just as an important role to a team's success as the players that will be on the field on Saturday. If your scout team doesn't have a good practice, than your first and second units can't have a good practice."
The Rebels will take Saturday off and will return to practice Sunday afternoon.
