OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team will open the 1999 home schedule with a double-header against the Belmont Bruins on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m.
The Rebels (3-2) are coming off a trip to Arlington, Texas, where they advanced to the quarterfinals of the University of Texas-Arlington Pepsi Classic. Ole Miss picked up wins against Texas Tech, Stephen F. Austin and N.E. Louisiana before losing to Tulsa in the quarterfinals. The Rebels also dropped the opening game of the tournament to the 11th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners 13-3.
"I'm pleased with the way our team responded after losing to Oklahoma," Ole Miss coach Candi Letts said. "We hit the ball well and I think our team is beginning to catch on to what we are trying to do."
The Bruins enter with a 6-1 record under head coach Charlie Gunter. Belmont's only loss of the season was a 6-1 decision to Jacksonville State on Feb. 16.
