Softball Opens Home Season against Belmont

Hot Hitting Rebels
Ole Miss hit a scorching .315 as a team during their five games at the Texas-Arlington Classic last weekend. Six Rebels are hitting above .330, with three hitting above .400 on the young season. Ole Miss also hit an impressive .352 with runners on base during the tournament.

Runnin' Rebs
The Rebels didn't waste anytime making things happen once they reached base. Ole Miss swiped eight bases during the Texas-Arlington Classic. Shortstop Mandy Shklar led the Rebels with a perfect 4-of-4 mark, CF Stephanie Vaglica stole two bases.

Almost Perfect
Junior pitcher Amanda Fine just missed throwing a perfect game against Texas Tech. Fine, a second team All-SEC player in 1998, gave up a lead-off single in the top of the sixth to break up the perfect game. Fine finished with a three-hit shutout over the Red Raiders and four strikeouts.

Shklar Shines
Junior SS Mandy Shklar opened the 1999 season in grand style hitting .389, driving in three runs and hitting her first career home run at UT-Arlington Classic. Shklar also scored four runs , doubled and stole four bases.

Coming Through in the Clutch
With one out in the top of the seventh inning and trailing N.E. Louisiana 2-1, freshman LF Jessica Hamilton delivered a two-run single to give the Rebels a 3-2 victory. Hamilton finished the tournament hitting .500, with two doubles and two RBI.

Letts Leads the Way
Candi Letts enters her first year as head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels after coming over from Colorado State. In her sixth year as a collegiate head coach, Letts amassed a 155-105-1 record in five years with the Rams. Letts also lead Colorado State to a 51-win season and a WAC championship in 1997.
