OXFORD, Miss. -- First-year head coach Candi Letts will have 11 returning players from last year's squad, including second team All-Southeastern Conference performer Amanda Fine who finished with a team-best 2.01 earned-run average.
Letts will also have shortstop Mandy Shklar, the team's second-leading hitter last year with a .251 average, and second baseman Rachel Davenport who hit .273 against SEC opponents in 1998.
"I am very excited to be a part of Ole Miss," Letts said. "I want to establish a strong program that will compete for the SEC championship every year. If we keep improving during the year and peak during conference play, we will be in a position to surprise a lot of teams."
The Rebels will also play Stephen F. Austin at 6:00 p.m. Friday, followed by an 11:15 a.m. game Saturday against Northeast Louisiana in round-robin action. The tournament's championship and consolation bracket play will begin on Saturday evening and will continue on Sunday.
