BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sophomore Amanda Fine, a pitcher and designated hitter on the Ole Miss fastpitch softball team, has been named to the All-Southeastern Conference second team as a utility player, which was released Wednesday. The All-SEC first and second teams were voted on by the league's coaches.

Fine, a native of Brentwood, Tenn., is an All-SEC selection for the second-straight year, as she garnered second team honors a year ago as a freshman.

Fine had an outstanding sophomore campaign both on the mound and at the plate for the Rebels. She led the team with a 2.01 earned-run average while posting a team-best .301 batting average. She also had a 14-15 record on the mound and was among the SEC's leaders in wins, ERA, strikeouts and complete games.

Despite missing 12 games this season with a separated shoulder, Fine picked up seven of the team's nine conference victories and also finished second on the team with 44 base hits. Fine started 25 games on the mound, 19 as designated hitter and three at second base.

Florida senior pitcher Chelsey Sakizzie earned SEC Player of the Year honors while Florida head coach Larry Ray was named Coach of the Year.

Fine was honored earlier this year as the University of Mississippi's Computer Science Department Outstanding Sophomore Award recipient. She carries a 3.48 grade-point average.

The All-Conference honors came one day after Fine was one of six Rebels named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll list. Fine joined senior Augusta Schaefer, juniors Misti Dossett and Stephanie Vaglica and sophomores Heather Swinney and Allison Willrath as honorees on the list.

Ole Miss finished the 1998 campaign with a 26-40 overall record, with a 9-21 slate in the SEC.
